      King of the Mountain

      June 13th, 2006 | by daniel | Travel

We’ve been in San Diego for four days now - me for a work conference, Amanda to accompany me. Our hotel is right on Mission Bay with quick access to Mission Beach and to an extent the rest of San Diego. We came up a few days early to explore the town, but mostly to take in the San Diego Zoo. The zoo was great. Amanda’s favorite was the Giant Panda’s, but I think I was most impressed by the Polar Bear Plunge. The SD Zoo is a must-see that can probably be done in a day if you don’t mind walking a lot.

After the zoo we continued around Balboa Park. Just like SA’s Zoo is surrounded by Brackenridge Park, this zoo is surrounded by a park. But unlike SA, SD’s park has a lot more to offer. Just a few things we saw: Spanish architecture, vikings, crafts, fountains, a cult, a wedding, picnics, botanical building, museums, koi, tarot card readers, and the odd saxaphone player.

We’re heading home tomorrow, gaining not only two time zones but thirty degrees give or take.

Oh, and the subject line comes from the game we saw (and heard) two sea lions playing in the marina from the balcony of our hotel room.
