We have few weekends left before “B-E” day and it seems that they are already spent on tasks. This past weekend the number one priority was to get the nursery planned and to break ground. We purchased paint Friday, put up two coats Saturday, shopped IKEA Sunday, and Pete and Rachel helped finish trim Monday.

It’s a little known fact that concerning pregnancy there are classes on anything you can think of: birthing, breast feeding, CPR, big brothers and sisters, boot camp for dads, even a class for your PETS. But nowhere is there a class to help the parents decide how to decorate a nursery.

We labored (pun intended :-)) over the nursery design, knowing only one thing - that we don’t want a “theme”. With choosing paint and finding some great accessories, this kid’s first room is finally coming together.

We discovered that we select colors better when we don’t over-think it. Apple slice seemed a soothing green that won’t make you slap your pappy when you walk in the room. It’s our base. We don’t know our baby’s gender, but we decided we could still use the Cosmic Blue as an accent without crossing over into baseballs and trucks. At the Lowe’s paint counter Amanda proclaimed that if it is a girl, motioning towards her belly, we will be adding pink to this lineup. The paint-monger agreed with her and proceeded to give us a gallon of Fresh Persimmons at the price of a quart. What a nice guy!

      Here’s our palette:

Sunday we got to introduce Mom to IKEA. We went over our budget, but got some way cool stuff for the nursery. Mom was amazed at all the cool modern stuff. She got a laundry rack, a squeegee and a jar of Lingonberry Jam. We think she’s hooked.
