Are You an Under-buyer or an Over-buyer?

      November 23rd, 2007 | by amanda | General, NaBloPoMo

In honor of Black Friday, I thought this was an appropriate post. Check out this short article on zenhabits.org and determine if you are an Under-Buyer or an Over-Buyer.

I am completely an Under-buyer. It was like this article was reading my mail.

“You often need to come up with a makeshift solution, such using soap because you’ve run out of shaving cream, because you don’t have what you need.”

      Completely true.

Someone suggested using baby shampoo for face wash years ago and that is still what I use. Recently we ran out of hand soap in our bathroom, so I used my baby shampoo to wash my hands.

We still have not completed re-finishing Annabelle’s dresser that was given to us. So I converted a boot-shoe box into a dresser drawer. I cut up the lid to divide the box into four sections. I have since built a table of boxes to hold up the makeshift dresser. This is sad. We should just finish the dresser.

“You often consider buying an item, then decide, ‘I’ll get this some other time’ or ‘Maybe we don’t really need this.’ ”

      All the time.

“You think, ‘Not buying these things shows that I’m frugal and not a consumerist sucker.’ “

      Absolutely.

      Which one are you?

        I ain’t no suckah.

It’s interesting how I’ve gone from ‘early adopter’ to ‘wait and see’ to ‘whatever, I don’t need it.’

I would say I am in between. I always have 3 or 4 of the hubbys soap on hand and at least 3 toothpastes unopened in our bathroom (we shop at Costco) but when it comes to me I am so an under buyer! Why does what happened to Mom’s?

I am TOTALLY an under-buyer. I’ll pick things up and walk around with them and then at the last minute, put them up… “I don’t really need it. I’ll use ___ instead.” or “If it’s here next time I come back then I’ll get it.”

yup. underbuyer. my grandma once asked me, ‘how do you live like this?!’ when she couldn’t find a variety of cleaners under my kitchen sink. baking soda and vinegar will clean practically everything — why get anything else? :D
