We watched August Rush tonight and couldn’t help ourselves from fast-forwarding through half of it. I usually don’t post about movie’s that I didn’t like, but this one was decidedly bad. The movie’s plot consists of unrealistic scenarios, fatherly types acting terribly, and twists of fate that serve to aggravate the viewer more than help the story along.
The plot summary states that the movie is “A drama with fairy tale elements, where an orphaned musical prodigy uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents.” Any clues available should have been given to the screenwriter.
In the words of Kristen Wiig’s SNL character Aunt Linda, I give this move a “Puhleeeeeeze” and an “Ohhhhh Gaaaad”.

I didn’t dislike the movie as much as Daniel did, but I didn’t love it. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood. Or maybe I should have read the tagline, because if I had expected fairy tale elements, then I wouldn’t have minded so much. But really most of the time I was like “I get it. You hear music in everything. Now get on with it.”
I also wanted more closure in the end, rather than just a smile. I know Jonathon’s character may have known that that was his son “through the music,” but I wanted someone to tell him. I wanted hugs! I wanted sitting happily together at a midnight cafe after the big show throwing back a banana split. even banging spoons and making music. is that too much to ask?

That’s so funny - I watched this movie on Friday night after wanting to see it for months…and it was terrible! I mean, the whole scenario with the kids living in some theater with Robin Williams is so freaking stupid. Uhg. So dumb.

I was literally throwing fits out loud at end of movie because I couldn’t believe how EXCESSIVELY stupid it was. I thought maybe the ending would vindicate an otherwise crappy movie. But no … just an uninspiring, anger-inducing collision of the lives of three main character.
The best part of the movie was that I realized that I like the name Lyla (now if I can just get over the taint attached to it b/c of this movie).

For all us music lovers out there…I have to say I disagree. I know, I know!! I can’t even believe I am admitting this on here.
But, yes…I liked it. It spoke to me. Okay, there we go.
