God Cares About the Mundane
The other night I was writing in my prayer journal and thinking about why I hadn’t written in it for a week. One of the many reasons was that not much was going on and life was pretty normal. I didn’t feel the need to write, process, and pray. And I heard the Lord speak to me, “I want to hear about the normal things too.”
The next day I went to the first day of the Beth Moore Esther bible study and she was talking about God’s providence in the video. My notes say, “In so doing (in His providence) God attends not only to apparently momentous events and people but also to those that seem both mundane and trivial…”
Sometimes I think I need something big to pray for or to talk about in my prayer journal. This has enouraged me to pray about small things that are going on with me. Not that I didn’t pray them before, I just wasn’t consistent. Now I am more encouraged to keep up with my journaling goal for 2009. It takes the pressure off to write about deep emotional events.
Already this week God answered one of my prayers. Daniel was staying up late to work and I prayed that he would be incredibly productive and get a lot done. He didn’t know I had prayed this as I fell asleep before 10:00 p.m.! The next morning Daniel told me that he had gotten a lot done and was happy with his progress. That was a neat answer to prayer. So last night as I praying I asked God for a pedicure. I told God ‘I’m just throwing it out there.’ I know He isn’t a “Santa Clause” God, but I thought I would ask anyway. So we’ll see! hahaa!

Nice post! I’ve been learning to pray the mundane too – even little annoyances or small conflicts that Dave shares with me about his job – I’m starting to respond with, “Let’s pray about that.” I’m learning that’s a better response than just worrying all the time.
