It’s Award Season!

It is no secret that I love award shows. I love the dresses. I like guessing whom I think will win and picking whom I want to win. I like watching for slip-ups, goofs, and surprises. I even watch all the pre-show interviews. But quite frankly, I am not too excited about this award season. There is no one movie that I am rooting for. All the movies for consideration are not endearing in any way. For example, even though ‘Crash’ was a little harsh, it had a great message. I don’t really want to see any of the films up for best picture. I appreciate the acting in films and the cinematography, but I can’t behind any of the films subject matter this year.

The Chuck Lorre Productions Vanity Card after the show ‘Big Bang Theory’ last night summed it up best for me. (WARNING!! ALERT!! Several Movie Spoilers! Don’t read if you don’t want to know the ending to certain movies!!)

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #235

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
(spoiler alert)

It’s that time of the year when movie studios seeking Oscar nominations for their films start asking for my consideration. Every trade ad and mailing begins with the words, “For your consideration.” It’s kind of a Hollywood tradition. Anyway, this is what I’ve considered so far: Milk (a well-meaning gay guy is shot to death by a homophobe), Doubt (A really mean nun accuses a really terrific priest of being a pedophile), Revolutionary Road (a married couple fight a lot, cheat on each other, then the wife bleeds to death following a botched abortion), Slumdog Millionaire (incredibly poor kids subjected to unthinkable evil, but with a happy ending), Defiance (starving Jews fight Nazis in the woods), The Wrestler (a broken-down, over-the-hill wrestler on steroids has a tough life), Changeling (a woman’s son is abducted and the police put her in an insane asylum), Gran Torino (a dying widower commits suicide to help his neighbor), Benjamin Button (a guy grows old in reverse and then dies), Rachel Getting Married (a drug addict kills her baby brother and then pisses off her family during a wedding), and The Reader (Nazi atrocities, under-age sex and illiteracy prove to be a lethal combo). So, what am I considering? Well, for a moment or two I actually considered hanging myself. But then I thought, if I do that, the movies win.

On to what I think was the best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes this year.

The Best

I am not a huge fan of Megan Fox, but I really loved this dress.

The Fashion Police on E! last night crowned Eva best dressed and I couldn’t agree more. The dress fit well and had great color.

Jenna could use some help in posing, but her dress is beautiful. This is the Golden Globes, not the Oscars and I think a print with some shimmery gold bits was perfect. I thought the dress fit her very well.

The Worst

That hair was horrible. It was like a bad Glamor Shots hairstylist got to it. The dress was pretty, but I saw multiple shots of her fidgeting with it. You shouldn’t have to fidget with a beautiful gown.

Again, the hair made this dress look worse. Renee can go one extreme or the other. Either she is really beautiful or cold and weird. This time she misses the mark.

America’s hair and make up was perfect, but her dress was not. At certain angles her boobs came to a sharp point and the bottom did not flatter her gorgeous figure. I have seen her look more fantastic in the past. It is a pretty dress, but not on America.

There were many others that deserved worst dressed like J.Lo (tacky!) and  Blake Lively (wear a dress that fits and do your hair!).

The SAG Awards are in two weeks! We’ll see who changes their looks for that award show.

What were your picks for best dressed? What do you think about the movies that are up for awards?

yay, awards time! i watched the globes with a friend and we were talking about how we don’t even get a chance to see the nominated movies before they start winning awards! (we’re not in a big metropolis that gets limited release movies). for example, i was trying to see The Reader last weekend since it’s supposedly opened nationwide – but not in my town. i was bummed. i could have seen Benjamin Button, but i didn’t want to spend 3 hours at the theater that day. argh!

anyway, i like looking at the dresses too – my faves were Eva Longoria’s (though it pains me to say it – i don’t like her that much!) and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s. i’ve never been a fan of silver or gold toned dresses, and it seemed that everyone was wearing flesh-toned gowns – boring! angelina’s silver thing looked ill-fitting and boring and blousy. and i liked Kate Winslet’s choice to do classy black – she’s worn all kinds of beautiful colors (periwinkle, mint green, bright red, etc.) in previous seasons, so black was a change for her. it looked great on her! i love her, she can do no wrong. this is Kate’s year!!

p.s. as for Drew’s hair, i thought it was big in a fun kind of way – i think it’d have been pulled off better if it was darker – not a bad dye job with roots. it just looked dried out.

one more thing: renee always spoils whatever she’s wearing with that “i just sucked on a lemon” face she makes.

@Dawn – I really like Maggie’s dress too. I thought she pulled it off well. Yeah, sometimes even San Antonio doesn’t get certain movies. Or if they do come they are only at one or two theaters for a short time.

So funny. That IS what Renee’s face looks like! Kate did look great. I really don’t like Angelina, so I didn’t even want to mention her. I didn’t like her hair. I like what the Fashion Police said – she made an expensive dress look cheap.

I completely agree with you about Eva. Loved it.

Yeah, what is up with Jenna’s pose?

    Renee? ugh!!!

Sorry, but I really hate celebrity award shows. I always want to know the results of the nominations, but if I have to watch a bunch of celebrities get up on stage in billion dollar outfits that accentuate all their plastic surgery and (some of them) spout off their stupid political views…I guess I would rather not sit through it. I know some of the people there might deserve an award or two for a job well done – but it is hard for me to sit through because I get so bored. And I LOVE music, but I pretty much loathe the Grammy’s, so I don’t think there is any hope for me.

I know, I need to loosen up. Sorry I pooped on your parade :(

Okay Amanders, I saw pics from the SAG awards (didn’t watch) and saw some beautiful gowns! Kate added to her color palette with that cobalt blue – wowzers. And I thought Anne Hathaway’s gown was everything Angelina’s ugly silver one from the GG’s *should have* been. Beautiful.
