Phraud?

If you’re following the sports press or even general media you’ve probably heard about the triumph and now trials of Floyd Landis the lead rider for the Phonak Cycling Team. Amanda and I know we are a minority in the US as we are huge Tour de France (OLN site) and cycling fans – yes i’ll watch the other classics on tv as well. We love to cheer for American cyclists no matter which team they ride for and it was exciting to see another American rise to victory in Paris.

It wasn’t just that Floyd won, it was HOW he won. After the devistation on La Toussuire in Stage 16, to come back and have a day of such historic dominance as Floyd had on Stage 17 of the race was more than this fan could ask for. Was it too much?
I admit I had a moment of doubt, but it passed and I reveled in the personal time trial and final entry to Paris. I was simply excited to see a guy overcome so much to reach his goals.
Then the news broke on Thursday.

Could it have all been a sham? I know I’m far away from the details of the situation, but I have hope that Floyd will be able to prove that he is not a cheater. Call me naïve, but I hope that this episode ends positive for Floyd and that we can be happy for someone that won with honor and integrity.
