What country song would you sing?

On Amercian Idol this week it was country music week. I love country music. So on my way into work today I was imagining if I could actually sing well and I could sing one country song on AI, what would I sing?

My first thought was Sara Evan’s “Born to Fly.” I just love that song. The coaches on the show always talk about believing in the song and owning the song. I know I could own that song. I love the lines, “So I confessed my sins to the preacher / About the love I’ve been prayin’ to find /  Is there a brown eye’d boy in my future, yeah / He says. girl you’ve got nothin’ but time.” I lived with my pastor and his wife and I could hear him saying that to me. And Daniel has brown eyes. :)

Then, I thought about Kelly Willis and what would I sing of her songs. I was actually singing along to Kelly Willis in the car imagining myself on the AI stage, looking gorgeous (because I would not have done my own hair and make up :) )and singing my heart out. I know, I am a dork.

So what country song would you sing and why?

I would totally sing any Bruce Robison song. If I was trying to be silly, then it would one of Kenny Chesney’s numerous ‘beach’ songs. If I was crazy and wanted to throw out my voice, then Rascal Flatts “I melt”.

Hmmm…that’s a good question Amanda. I think I would sing anything Sara Evans, but I would also sing Carolyn Dawn Johnson’s “complicated”…..because I seem to make everything that way. Oh and I would also sing Carrie Underwood’s new song “Wasted” caus I love it!!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks like this. :) I think I would go Dixie Chicks “Long Time Gone” or Carrie Underwood “Young and Beautiful”… or something like that. We’re assuming I would have the voice to pull it off, of course. Ha!

I love “Complicated!” It is on the country version of the Daniel and Amanda mix I made.

I still love the Dixie Chicks. I have had “The Long Way Around” stuck in my head all day today! Their documentary “Shut and Sing” was really good.
